Mueller Hut / Mt Ollivier Overnight Hike
Mueller Hut is one of the more accessible alpine huts in NZ. Above it stands Mount Ollivier (1,933 metres) - known as the first peak Sir Edmund Hillary climbed. Alpine Guides' overnight guided hike to Mount Ollivier and Mueller Hut makes for an unhurried trip, with the peak of Mount Ollivier just 40 minutes climb from the hut. This is an unforgettable location, flanked by the glacier draped peaks of the Main Divide.
Mueller is busy during summer and the track is straightforward. We guide through Autumn to Spring (April-October), when the hut is quieter and the route requires technical equipment and mountain experience to make a safe ascent.
Seasonal track changes
The trek to Mueller Hut sees a lot of changes through the hiking season. Conditions underfoot change from a winter mountaineering ascent during June to Sept, as compared to a late-summer rock-hop through April and May.
