Looking for an extraordinary experience? Alpine Guides' Plateau Hut Overnight trip is the perfect 'easy' mountain adventure and a trip to one of New Zealand's most iconic alpine locations. You will stay at a modern NZ alpine hut, and enjoy the thrill of glaciated 'big-mountain' terrain, accompanied by your professional guide.
Roped for glacier travel, you will safely trek to the summit of Glacier Dome (2,452 metres) - a beautiful snow-clad, but non-technical peak, on the flanks of Aoraki Mount Cook itself!

Day One
Meet your guide and discuss plans
Sort gear and travel to Mt Cook Airport
Fly to Plateau Hut – 2,210 metres (7,250 feet) above sea level
Set up at hut and take lunch
Glacier walk and training
Dinner

Glacier Dome trek and traverse - 2 to 3 hours

Fly back to Mt Cook airport

Trip Dates: Can be arranged year-round
Start and end times: your trip starts at 8:30 AM on day 1 and ends around 5:00 PM on day 2 at the Alpine Guides office in Mount Cook Village.
Experience required: No climbing or mountaineering experience is required but you do need to have an average level of fitness and a sense of adventure!
Guide to client ratio: up to 4 people per guide
Age restriction: Minimum 12 years old.

Seasonal Timing/ Astrophotography
Timing Your Trip
Plateau Hut can be visited year-round. However, November to early January is the peak climbing season for Mount Cook climbs. At that time the hut may be very busy, and is often noisy during the small hours of the morning, with mountaineers making “alpine starts”.
We do not recommend booking in November to early January - unless you want the “full” alpine experience!
Astrophotography
The Plateau Hut overnight trip is a great venue for avid photographers with a love for the stars and a taste for adventure.
The galactic core of the Milky Way is visible in the southern hemisphere from February to October. During the winter months of June and July, the core is at its brightest.
Inquire with us about Astrophotography options during winter months and experience our famous dark sky reserve while staying in an alpine hut on the flanks of Mount Cook.
Booking Conditions
Booking Terms and Conditions Exceptions
Due to its short duration Plateau Hut Overnight has some variations compared to our standard mountaineering booking terms and conditions. Please see below.

The balance of payment is due 21 days before to the start of your trip.

If it is not possible to reach Plateau Hut (due to poor weather) and guests are not able to reschedule, or not interested in an alternative trip, there will be a full refund of fees, less a $125 booking fee per-person. If an alternative trip option is agreed on which does not include aircraft access, a refund of the total of NZ$2,000 (the unused aircraft cost) will be made for the party.

For cancellations made 8 days or less prior to commencement, no refund will be made
For cancellations made within 21 days prior to commencement, we reserve the right to retain 50% of the full fee.
