This 8 day trip has been fashioned in the style of a classic mountain journey - crossing from the west to the east of the Southern Alps. The modern advantage is that we make use aircraft transportation, to maximise use of time, and begin the expedition at Pioneer Hut.
With stunning vistas of the West Coast's temperate forests to the Tasman Sea, we cross mighty glaciers northwards to Centennial Hut, before heading east down through Graham Saddle.
The landscape changes dramatically east of the Divide, with vast U-shaped valleys and the dry Mackenzie grasslands far beyond the Tasman Glacier terminal.
We descend to De la Beche Hut before walking out the the road end, and finishing the journey back at Mount Cook Village.
All meals and snacks, air access, local accommodation, local transport, use of a range of technical gear, Alpine Guides Technical Manual.
