Summer in the Southern Alps | November through April
Summer is the most popular time for high alpine climbing in New Zealand, and the best time to learn the basics of mountaineering. The more settled summer snowpack allows for access on to the highest peaks, and extended daylight hours make longer routes achievable.
Instruction Courses
Our climbing instruction courses cover everyone from the absolute beginner, through to the more experienced alpinist.
- Mountain Experience Course - the perfect introduction to the high mountains
- Technical Mountaineering Course - an intensive introduction to alpine climbing
- Women's Mountaineering Course - a Technical Mountaineering Course - just for the girls
- Advanced Alpine Skills - for the experienced climber looking to up-skill
- Technical Alpine Rock Course - learn to lead on serious multi-pitch alpine rock
- Objective:3000 - a private course for 1 or 2 people to train for, and summit, a specific 3000+ metre peak
Most courses run to fixed dates and have limited spaces available.

From NZ's highest and most famous peaks to flexible, low ratio programs designed to meet specific or more general objectives.
- Ascents Program - multi-day package for individuals
- Private Instruction & Guiding - for 2 or more participants
- Classic Alpine Rock Ascents - climb some of NZ’s finest rock summits
- Local Heroes - climb some of the prominent peaks close to Mount Cook Village
- Aoraki/Mount Cook Expedition - a 6 day package
- Mount Aspiring Expedition - a 5 day package for 1 or 2 participants
- Mount Tasman Expedition - a 7 day package
- Tasman Glacier Grand Expedition - a 12 day epic climbing trip for 1 or 2 people
- Across The Main Divide - an 8-day traverse from west to east across the Southern Alps
