Winter Mountain Skills

Winter Mountain Skills is Alpine Guides 4-day winter travel and survival skills course for hikers, hunters, and "trampers". It is ideal for fit people with outdoor experience who want to learn to travel safely on foot above the snowline in winter.

Course Objective - Making the Right Decisions

Winter Mountain Skills focuses on staying safe above the snow line - it is not a "climbing course". However, you will cover many aspects of mountain craft like: route finding, avoiding hypothermia, and travel using snowshoes and/or crampons and ice axe.

You need to be fit, and able carrying a 12-15 Kg for at least 4 hours when walking in.

All instruction takes place in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park or local mountain venues. Road transport is provided when required.
