FAQ - Travel and Transport
This page gives various options for travelling to our base at Mt Cook, or to Wanaka, or Methven. For international visitors Christchurch or Queenstown are the main entry points to the South Island, with the most public transport options.

Christchurch or Queenstown to Mount Cook
A year-round daily service to Mt Cook.
- Departs Christchurch 07:30, arrives at Mt Cook 12:50
- Departs Queenstown at 07:30 arrives Mt Cook 12:15
- Both services depart Mt Cook at 14:25
This bus service is part of their "Great Sights" service, and through peak season may charge a premium price.
Buying a "Flexi-Pass" is often the most economic way to travel with InterCity Coaches. You can buy a 15 hour Flexi-Pass and use this to book your Intercity ticket.
Queenstown to Mount Cook
Queenstown Transfers operate year-round, offering a daily shuttle service to and from Mount Cook. Please contact them directly for availability. The fare is better than the Great Sights service, but they do require a minimum of 3 people to run the service on a given day.

Public Transport to Wanaka
Air New Zealand offers daily domestic flights to Queenstown. International visitors can fly directly to Queenstown.
Bus Travel From Queenstown
Ritchies Wanaka pick up and drop off at Queenstown Aiport.
Public Transport to Methven
Methven Travel provide regular transport from central Christchurch and Christchurch Airport to Methven and return. They also will not charge you for ski and snowboard bags.
