Day Heli-Accessed Ski Touring

Heli-accessed touring with Alpine Guides opens up Mount Cook Heliski's incredible terrain across 4 mountain ranges for single-day ski and split-board tours. 

Our NZMGA/IFMGA guides know the area and snowpack better than anyone. Your guide will pick the best and safest zone available on the day to maximise your vertical. The scope and range of terrain and aspect choices means we can most the most of any conditions.

Hiring a guide means there’s no need to guess on conditions and avalanche risk. Alpine Guides runs the regional forecasting service.

You’ll fly in and be dropped at the of head of your first run, at up to 2,200 m, spending your day exploring some of NZ’s best big-mountain touring terrain with a professional guide. Your helicopter will buzz your crew back to base at the end of a thrilling day in the backcountry.

Terrain Options

We fly out of Glentanner Park or Mt Cook airport, once your guide has decided on the best area for the day, given weather and snow conditions

  • Ben Ohau Range including Whale Stream, Twin Streams, Mount Mary

  • Gammack Range across to Fork and Fraser Stream

  • Liebig Range, including Gorilla Stream

  • Burnett Range

Experience Required

  • Advanced intermediate or better skiers and snowboarders

  • High level of aerobic fitness

  • Touring experience preferred

  • Days will be tailored to suit your crew’s experience

How it Works

  • Meet your guide at 08:30 am.

  • Safety briefing and gear check.

  • Helicopter drops you off at the top of the first run.

  • Day spent exploring the ski touring area. Your guide will set up a skinning track for each new run.

  • Helicopter pick up from a low staging point between 3:00 to 3:30 pm.

Does not include:

  • Personal equipment and clothing

  • Ski touring equipment

Booking Your Trip

Either call us with your details, or book online.

All phone reservations require valid credit card details to guarantee your booking. Full payment will be taken on the day of your trip.

If booking online we require a $75 deposit per-person to guarantee your booking. This is fully refundable if we cannot operate. The balance is paid on the day.

We recommend booking in advance to secure your guide - especially through August/ September. Touring is weather dependent and is not guaranteed to run. We will keep in touch about the weather prior to your arrival.

If your day is cancelled because of the weather, there is a full refund. Please ensure you read our Terms and Conditions.
