Intro to Alpine Touring

Take the next step, and enter the realm of ski and snowboard touring in big glaciated terrain. Join a scheduled course or organise a private trip for you and your buddies.

This 4-day hut-based course runs out at one of our premium glaciated venues in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. You'll learn the skills to travel across glaciated terrain, route-finding experience and crevasse rescue methods. Whiteout navigation and an introduction to snow safety and are also high on the agenda.

Who this course is for

Intro to Alpine Touring is for skiers and snowboarders with some backcountry/slackcountry experience. Our expert IFMGA/NZMGA guides will take you into this serious terrain instructing in safe technique and technical skills along the way. The importance of making turns is never overlooked!

  • Avalanche hazard evaluation

  • Mountain weather & forecasting

  • Route selection and crevasse rescue

  • Emergency shelters

Experience required:

  • High level of aerobic fitness

  • Experienced to advanced skiers
